Walk with Him

Last year, my mother and I decided to start going for regular walks on evenings as just a small part of our health routine. So on select days of the week, for about an hour or so, no matter how hard the day was or whatever we had to prepare for the next day, we were walking that evening. At first, this was easier said than done as some days proved to be way harder than others, sometimes time just didn't permit and some days, we flat-out didn't feel like it. But we persisted.

.

During these walks, I noticed that we also started to develop a sub-routine where this walk-time would also be used to talk to each other, uninterrupted, and to catch up on the happenings of each other's lives. More often I found myself eager and excited for the evenings where we could have this time. As we grew more accustomed to our routine, the quality of our conversations also grew. This time together would also be used to talk about our passions, our goals, and dreams, the way we see things, and what we've learned, and we'd learn new ways to encourage and edify each other. It blows my mind at times just how much wisdom, revelation, and some good, Godly advice are passed on. We talk things out and get answers and solutions to so many different situations that we experience just between us both.

.

Now my mother and I have always been very close, but now we are much more in tune with each other as individuals. Our prayers for each other are much more accurate and specific because we've taken the time to fill in the little details. I understand who she is, not just as my mother but as a loving and strong and wise woman and she sees me exactly as I am, loves me for it, and helps to guide me in the woman that I'm becoming.

.

This directly makes me think of the relationship that God wanted with us from the start. I would always try to imagine what things God and Adam would discuss in Eden when they walked together in the cool of the evening. But now I think I have a better understanding of their time. He wanted us to know and experience first-hand, exactly who he is, and for him to be the direct guide to the individual that we become. He wants to have that level of closeness and conversation with us and already has the answers and solutions that we need for all of our cares in this life. He knows us better than anyone else because he made us and he wants to have that walk with us. He wants to have that time with us.

.

I thank God every day that I get to experience so many earthly examples of His love and His relation to us in this way, but I'd like to also encourage anyone who feels like they don't have that same privilege today and that missing piece is a source of hurt or pain for them, please be reminded that Jesus wants to be that person for you. For all of us. We were created by Him for this exact connection. He wants to take us back to that time when we could walk and talk together and experience His unconditional love and understanding far above any and everything we've experienced.

.

I pray that everyone reading this will experience that same love and connection today through Christ, and to all the wise, strong, resilient, multi-tasking, do-it-all, supermoms, superdads, guardians and leaders God bless you.
